COURCHATON
Courchaton is situated under the limestone hills which are covered by the forest. Those hills are named “mottes”. The Motte du Châtelot was in the past a prehistoric place. The name “Châtelot” remind us that Courchaton owned two castles in the Middle Ages. But they were surely destroyed during the French Conquest in the 17th century. On the slopes of the hills, the orchards are so beautiful in spring when it’s the flowering time. In the past, the vineyard was cultivated instead of the cherry plum tree. Some remember of this time are still alive : in the village, you can notice ancient wine grower houses. Even if wine isn’t produced anymore, the water still supply the 8 fountains of the village. The church, with its nice comtois steeple is opened every day. Inside, you can admire two retables on each side of the choir.
