ORICOURT

Oricourt used to be a feud belonging to the Bourgogne County. This charming village shelters the medieval castle. Founded in the 12th century, the castle of Oricourt is at present among the best preserved medieval castles in Franche-Comté. Here, you will discover a rare example of medieval defensive architecture. The fortified surrounding walls protect the farm yard and the dwelling yard. The towers looking down upon the yards are impressive in size (25 m high). The main part of the building (from 12th to 15th century), the wells, the water tank, the bakery, the cellars, and the pigeon’s house give evidence of the former importance of this fortress. The 1st week end of July, “Château en Fête” turns the streets of Oricourt into a happy and colourful festival: it is one of the most beautiful historic events in Franche-Comté.
