MELECEY
Situated in a hilly area, the village, surrounded by orchards and forests, the village is situated down the hill of Grammont (517 m). In the centre of the village, you can see the church rebuilt in the end of the 17th century, and the superb sculpted washhouse that is still watered. The ancient salt-works, founded in 1845 by the Marquis of Raincourt, is the only industrial building of this kind that was not damaged in all Haute-Saône. It used to work during 30 years. On the top hill of the village, the ancient burial ground is a unique place. Probably abandoned before WWI, for sanitary reasons, the graveyard was neglected. Most of the tombs were not transferred. So you can see cast iron crosses with engraved epitaphs, coming mostly from the foundries of Fallon.
