ESPRELS

ESPRELS ESPRELS
The site of Esprels is inhabited since the Antiquity : the village was situated on the Roman way coming from Besançon, heading for to the North (Marast, la Grange d’Ancin, Aillevans). The church, with its typical “comtois” steeple, was rebuilt in 1738. Going past behind the church, you will discover the St Desle washhouse dedicated to an Irish monk who came with St Colomban, in order to evangelize the land. He settled at Luxeuil where he enjoyed to rest and meditate near the source. This is known for curing the eyes sicknesses. Today, the village is adorned with a nice washhouse. While walking through the village, you can also see beautiful houses dating from the 17th and the 18th centuries, another two ancient fountains and a cross made of carved wood. The village is edged by the Ognon toward the south-west.
