Prieuré de marast
The Priory of Marast, a very rare Romanesque building preserved in the Haute Saône, was founded in the 1120s.
The building is striking for the purity of its architecture (Cistercian inspiration). The vault is exceptional with its frame in the shape of an overturned ship's hull. In the choir, very old engraved tombs are still preserved.
Thanks to the Conseil Général de Haute-Saône, the site has undergone a magnificent restoration. The two aisles which had been destroyed in the 18th century have been rebuilt according to the old plans and decorated with stained glass windows. The Priory now hosts concerts and cultural events in the summer.
A guidebook is available in French, English and German from the Pays de Villersexel Tourist Office or on site.
Access ramp adapted for people with reduced mobility and pushchairs. Free admission, open every day, all year round.
In summer, the association "Les Amis du Prieuré de Marast" offers a series of concerts and exhibitions. To find out about events at the Priory, see the Agenda section (and remember to book!)
