FALLON
In the extreme south of the department, this village was famous in the 19th century for its iron and steel industry. Fallon foundries produced furnaces well-known all over France. Indeed, the subsoil was rich of ore; the forest furnished the fuel and the water, the energy necessary for this industry. The fountain-washhouse, founded in 1763 by J. Ch. Colombot, is one of the oldest in Haute-Saône. Restored recently, you can admire its basin of twenty meter length and the nice sandstone spring aedicule. There are also in the village many ancient farms. Fallon is a producer of cherry plum. Local ones are small, very sweet and flavoured; they are used for making pies, jams, sweets, brandy, or Chiquand’li (chocolate candy filled with cherry plum).
